the garage is being done in barn red, as we want it to have the appearance of a barn that is attached to the house, the house will be in a beige/tan/grayish color... you'll see in a couple of days!!!!!

rted, summer has finally arrived. Now, I am not really a "hot weather person", but I have to admit, these temps have been very enjoyable, and for the (roughly) five weeks of "summer weather" we have left, I will certainly enjoy it. We really did get "jipped" in the summer weather this year.
One thing you can't do is keep a dry towel on the dock. Guaranteed that a dog or two will be more than happy to use it for themselves!!!!
Later that day we went down to Portsmouth to Prescott Park and watch the summer play. This year's play is Grease, and since it only has one more week to run, we needed to get there or miss out.
arrived just in time for the 93rd Annual Firemen's Muster. It was a beautiful day, and the parade was quite grand!!! I was in a bit of a panic about even being able to see this year's parade. With renters leaving and renters arriving... making sure the house was all set for both, plus doing barn chores and then the travel time down, I had some doubts that I would make it in time for the parade... but I did make it in time and was very happy about that.

After the parade is the "muster".. a series of games that the firemen play and compete against each other. There wasn't a big crowd this year.. maybe it was just too hot (summer has finally arrived with it's 90 degree temps) but there were a few running teams and some foods and other things to do. It's such a nice family event, and I always feel a little sad to see that not many "families" are taking advantage of it anymore.
And, After the "muster" comes the clambake and award ceremony. The bake was very good, but the building was so HOT, that I'm not sure I really "enjoyed" it. I guess we're just not used to having summer!!! It was good to spend sometime with old friends, and catch up on the news that we don't hear so much about, now that we live out of town.
Ed was this year's recipient of the "Chief" Award" for his 32 years of service with the fire company. As you all know, due to our move, he had to "give up" his position in York, but will soon be taking over as Chief here in our new town. He was quite honored to be recognized by everyone in the "old" fire company and many are excited for him as he begins here.
at the farm just yet, but this is where we were one year ago today... The "digger had arrived and was getting ready for the foundation. These pictures are good for me to see, because when the progress seems to be slow, it reminds me of how far we have come within the year. And next summer (when we will be in the house for sure) it will remind me of where we (were) are this summer!!!
Despite the fact that Ed has been battling with this (stupid) kidney stone, he and Ken have been working on the house. Ed can usually get in about a half day's work and then has to quit, which really makes him mad. But there is so much "fussy" work with all this vinyl siding that it has worked out OK.. leaving Ken to bend much of the vinyl and have pieces ready for the next day of work. The lift has been fabulous, and there is no way (I think) this work could have gone on without it. Yesterday, Ed had a doctor's appointment, and the good news is, the stone was broken up with last week's procedure, and the "stent" that he had to have for that, was pulled out. He said that just doing that, makes him feel so much better, and last night, I think he had the first good night of sleep in weeks. This morning, he was up early and seemed ready to go. So, he is off to the farm.

"sadly" Saturday was already jammed packed with things to do, I had a private student in the morning, the camp to get ready for new people, and the usual barn chores. Ed wanted to get some work done on the house.. but we took the late afternoon and went. I wished we had gone a little earlier, because when we arrived, things were actually closing up. The craft part wasn't as big as I thought (or hoped) but what we found out, was it was a huge Barbecue cookoff. And from what we were told, this was a "really important" one... the winner would be heading to the nationals.

We talked with one group for quite awhile, they have their own secret sauce and calculations for how long the cooking process is, and he ONLY uses apple wood in his cooker.

But the thing that "got me the most" was the fact that if anyone is going thru life, thinking that there isn't much "to do".. then they are really missing out on things. It seems to me that if you have an interested in just about anything.. there is a "group" for it, and that you can get as serious as you choose. Personally, I didn't really understand the qualifications for this, but you can see what people have "invested" to be a part of it. The same with me and dog shows, or the few quilting competitions I have been in.
Life is pretty interesting!!!!!
a nice day. The weather was beautiful, warm, breezy, low humidity. Ed was feeling more like him old self, and spent much the day working on the house. (I just hope he didn't "over do it") I putter around the barn, rode Tonka and after that hitched Mocha and went for a little drive. It was so nice to have a day to "breath"... the up com
ing week looks busy, so I took today for the gift it gave me and for simply what
was....
Course the weather hasn't been so helpful, though now we are in a beautiful stretch here. Ed is up and gone early in the am, and hardly stops enough for lunch. His kidney stones are of no help, and Thursday, he goes in for the blasting. We hope this will be the end of the
m for awhile. He really tries not to let it effect him, but I am the one that makes him stop and take a break... I can see it in his face when he has had enough. Fortunately, he does listen to me!!!!

So, "hello August", looking back over the past year we have actually accomplished quite a bit.. since it was just last August when we moved, and the house hadn't even been started yet. Guess, this is a good lesson for me in patience and persistence... I will remember it well.
